Use This Vitamin To Repel Mosquitoes All Summer Long collective-evolution

Summer isn’t only about sun-kissed cheeks and deep talks by the fire. It’s also a great time to get re-acquainted with our longtime nemesis, the mosquito. It isn’t until we have a few itchy bites on our skin that we remember to take out the bug spray and citronella to protect ourselves from these mini vampires.

But if you’re anything like me and would rather go the natural route, then thiamine (also known as Vitamin B1) may be your new best friend, since DEET is a toxic chemical.

Thiamine

An essential vitamin that can be found in foods such as brown rice, asparagus, kale, and legumes, thiamine is also water soluble, as all B vitamins are, which means that the body expels it through urine rather than storing it — no need to worry about taking too much.

It’s also fantastic for the nervous system. Thiamine is sometimes called an “anti-stress” vitamin because it may strengthen the immune system and improve the body’s ability to withstand stressful conditions.

Individuals who have suffered from chronic alcoholism, Crohn’s diseaseanorexia, and gastric bypass may benefit from thiamine supplementation as well, because these conditions lower the natural occurring thiamine in the body.

But one of the little-known qualities this fantastic vitamin has is the potential to change the way you smell to mosquitos, because people with adequate Vitamin B1 levels tend to smell “yeasty,” a smell mosquitos would rather not have a taste of.

If you’re heading up to a cottage this summer/fall it’s great to be proactive. Take 100 mg of thiamine every day and within two weeks, you’ll be sure to notice the lack of bugs nibbling at your skin.

If you’d like some extra help warding off these little guys, try this all-natural insect repellent!
